ABOUT US

Hamilton County VFW Post 4993

The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States has a long history of standing up for veterans, their families, and the communities they call home. But while that history is important, what matters most to us is what we are doing right here in Hamilton County, Nebraska and the Hamilton County VFW Post 4993 has been serving veterans and our community since 1945.
We are a group of veterans who believe that serving our country didn't end when we left the military. We may have hung up our boots, but there is still plenty of work to do. Our Post is about veterans helping veterans, remembering those who came before us, supporting our families, taking care of our youth, and giving back to the communities that have supported us.

The Communities We Serve
Post 4993 is proud to serve veterans, their families, and our neighbors throughout Hamilton County to include Aurora, Marquette, Giltner, Phillips, Hampton, Stockham, Hordville. These are the communities where our members live, work, raise their families, coach their kids, volunteer, and call home. They're also the communities where we believe we have a responsibility to give back. To being there when our community needs us.

Serving Our Veterans
One of our biggest priorities is making sure veterans know they don't have to navigate life after the military alone. We work to connect veterans and their families with the resources and assistance available to them, while also providing something just as important, a place to belong. The VFW has always been a place where veterans can come together, share their experiences, look out for one another, and continue serving. That's what we strive to do here at Post 4993. Whether it's helping a veteran or family in need, honoring a veteran at their funeral, or simply being there for another veteran, we believe veterans should take care of veterans.

Taking Care of Our Community
Being a VFW Post isn't just about veterans. It's about being part of the community. Throughout the year, Post 4993 supports local causes, organizations, families, and community projects. Our members volunteer their time, donate resources, and show up when help is needed. During the 2025–2026 year, the members of Post 4993 recorded 12,590 hours of community service. Those hours represent real people helping real people. We helped local families put food on their tables during Thanksgiving and Christmas, provided Christmas gifts and clothing for families who needed a little extra help, and held food drives to support local food pantries. We also take pride in caring for the Veterans Memorial at the Hamilton County Courthouse, helping ensure that the names and sacrifices of those who served are never forgotten. Our VFW Day of Service is another opportunity for our members to roll up their sleeves and make a difference right here at home.

Taking Care of Our Youth
We believe taking care of our community means taking care of our kids, too. Our young people are the future of these communities, and the future of our military, and we want to help give them every opportunity to succeed. Post 4993 members are involved in our local youth programs in many different ways. Our members coach youth sports, mentor students through school the Teammates programs, teach hunter safety, support school activities, and volunteer their time wherever they can help. We have the Patriots Pen and Voice of Democracy Programs as well as our High School Senior Scholarships
We believe our responsibility to young people goes beyond writing a check. It's about showing up. It's standing on the sidelines. It's teaching a kid something new. It's being a mentor. It's encouraging them when things don't go their way, and it's helping young people understand the importance of service, responsibility, respect, integrity, and taking care of the people around them. We want the next generation to know that their community believes in them and that someday, they can make a difference, too.

Honoring the Flag
Our flag means something to us. It's not just a piece of cloth. Through our Flag Program, we help provide flags for veterans' funerals and work to make sure flags are available in our communities when they are needed. We also collect worn and tattered American flags so they can be properly retired with the respect they deserve. It's a simple thing, but to us, respect for the flag is respect for the people who have served beneath it.
Remembering and Supporting
We believe that remembering our veterans isn't something we should do only on Memorial Day or Veterans Day. Throughout the year, Post 4993 helps honor the service and sacrifice of our veterans through ceremonies, memorial events, community programs, and gatherings. Our 9/11 Ruck March gives us an opportunity to remember those we lost, honor those who continue to serve, and bring our community together for a meaningful cause.
We also host events that bring veterans, families, and community members together, including our annual golf tournament and our Army vs. Navy Chili Cook-Off. These events are about more than raising money. They're about bringing people together, building friendships, supporting good causes, and keeping the spirit of service alive in our communities.
